First Patients in Canada Imaged with Illuccix®: Now Commercially Available Nationwide

Telix today announces first patients have been imaged in Canada with its commercially available prostate cancer imaging agent, Illuccix® [kit for the preparation of gallium (68Ga) PSMA-11 for intravenous injection].

With Illuccix now available nationwide in Canada through Telix’s partner Isologic Innovative Radiopharmaceuticals (Isologic), INITIO Medical Group in Burnaby, BC (INITIO) became one of the first sites to administer this novel PSMA-PET imaging agent that can help healthcare professionals diagnose the stage and spread of prostate cancer – an important step for men with this disease.

Illuccix, after radiolabeling with gallium (68Ga), is indicated for use with positron emission tomography (PET) of prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positive lesions in men with prostate cancer:

  • with suspected metastasis who are suitable for initial definitive therapy;
  • with suspected recurrence with elevated serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) level.

Illuccix is the first PSMA-PET imaging agent to have been granted regulatory approval in Canada. Health Canada became the third regulatory body worldwide to approve Illuccix, which is also commercially available in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Avec Illuccix maintenant disponible au Canada par l’entremise d’Isologic Innovative Radiopharmaceuticals (Isologic), partenaire de Telix, INITIO Medical Group à Burnaby en Colombie-Britannique (INITIO) est devenu l’un des premiers sites à administrer ce nouvel agent d’imagerie diagnostique fondée sur la tomographie par émission de positrons (TEP) ciblant l’antigène membranaire spécifique de la prostate (« prostate specific membrane antigen », PSMA). Illuccix peut aider les professionnels de la santé à diagnostiquer le stade et la propagation du cancer de la prostate, une étape importante pour les hommes atteints de cette maladie. 

Après le marquage au Gallium (68Ga), Illuccix est indiqué pour la TEP des lésions positives au PSMA chez les hommes atteints d’un cancer de la prostate: 

  • chez qui on soupçonne la présence de métastases qui sont aptes à recevoir un traitement initial définitif; 
  • chez qui on soupçonne une récidive avec un taux sérique élevé d’antigène prostatique spécifique (APS). 

Illuccix est le premier agent d’imagerie diagnostique TEP au PSMA à obtenir une approbation réglementaire au Canada. Santé Canada est devenu le troisième organisme de réglementation du monde à approuver Illuccix, qui est également disponible sur le marché en Australie, en Nouvelle-Zélande et aux États-Unis. 

Le Dr Philip Cohen, directeur d’INITIO et chef de division de la médecine nucléaire à l’hôpital Lions Gate de North Vancouver, a déclaré : « La thérapie aux isotopes entre dans une nouvelle ère avec la possibilité de voir et de diagnostiquer des cancers invisibles en fonction de leur “signature” moléculaire, puis de les cibler en utilisant la même signature. Maintenant, si nous pouvons voir le cancer, nous pouvons le traiter, et potentiellement le maîtriser, et éventuellement guérir un jour cette terrible maladie. »
